Welcome to my first blog entry. I know that so many people have waited impatiently for it after my kind of «promotion» mail to the Ehauss group. Now I have already spent two months here in Latvia. There were so many experiences and impressions that I cannot chose about what I should write firstly. But I guess my German class is a nice topic to start with as it was also mentioned on our homepage.
After hanging on all the posters in the university buildings I received lots of emails in my mailbox. I was impressed that so many people are motivated to learn German and that it is used to be one of their dreams. Now I have made 2 beginner groups with a size of 10-12 people. But not only students, also pupils and employees are willing to learn my mother tongue. It is just amazing. And with these classes my first real own EVS project has started :) Recently in my school time in Germany I loved to teach other students. Now I can improve my skills and by the way I by myself learn also much about my own language: word order, adjectives, declinations of the nouns, articles... all that comes correctly out of my mouth by heart of course. Now I am forced to look up the grammar rules to be able to explain them to foreigners. Indeed German is a real hard language to learn, but my students are very clever and fast learners. The pronounciation of German seems to be not too difficult for Latvian speakers and many words can be recognized by their similarity to English. The first course will last until the middle of December. I am excited how much my students will be able to speak then. At least I am confident that they will survive easily as a tourist in Germany as I am teaching them the basic vocabulary, most-used phrases and language structure.
